Yuzuki Fish Market
Small business with a quaint style. A hidden gem in the middle of Spadina. ★★★★★

Hello from 🐳 Mrs. Dani and 🐋 Mr. Fancy,
Firstly, how does one get to find this hidden gem? This is quite the first for us as we were walking down Spadina and found just this little ‘fish market’ with well defined Japanese style. Our curious minds couldn’t take one more second to enter the premises and try to find something interesting. To our surprise, not only was this a Japanese Fish Market, but it was also a restaurant.
🐋 Now - Mr. Fancy here - Don’t expect a ‘Restaurant’ Restaurant. No ‘real’ tables or table cloths or anything fancy like that. It reminds me of a rustic style Japanese bar. It could probably hold 15 people in a odd/cozy way
So, it was a fish market and had its well defined deli style in the middle of the venue, with the tables around it to the left when you enter. The Cashier to the other side for someone just purchasing any products or ordering take out.
🐳 Mrs. Fancy here. I really don’t want to be harsh, so take the next few things with a grain of salt. I LOVED THIS EXPERIENCE! This is a small place where you can meet everyone one-to-one, it’s more personal. Feels like you are in a street market and you are receiving the freshest ingredients that - according to Natsu (夏), my new friend and our server - arrive every week by plane, directly from Japan. That’s an experience that crowded restaurants would never give us.
🐋 Yeah, fair fair fair…
Now, the experience itself! We went to the back of the shelves to find ourselves next to the sushi chef and Natsu, our friendly server. The division between the sushi counter and the market is marked by a table full of perfectly organized hand-written notes. Those notes suggested fishes of the day that we could eat at the restaurant, as well as produce that were quite fresh. You can find Crown Melon, actual Wasabi Roots, Monk Fish and its livers ready to eat, edible flowers; Everything was fresh and inviting.

When the Server noticed us and asked if we would like to eat there, we were asked if we would like some green tea - 🐋Trust me, you want the green tea! - And while she was preparing the tea in the back, we walked ourselves to a counter at the entrance of the store to sit. The sitting is ‘bar style’; we sat on really cool high stools.

The Menu is beautiful, hard-cover english menu with pictures and not busy. The choices of fish and variety of types of food are amazing! You are not limited by Salmon, Tuna, Shrimp and FakeCrab. This is a place for you to eat the REAL stuff.
🐳 People with allergies! Rejoice! Many options for people who are allergic to shellfish like me!

When ordering, we had to ask for suggestions. We were quite curious of what we could have that would really set this place apart. After some time with the menu, we have called Natsu for ordering and asking what she could suggest. She had many suggestions and tailored to us what she believed would be nice to have. We ended up ordering monkfish liver for starters, a sushi platter, some o-toro tuna sushi, a Dynamite handroll and a tuna handroll.

Now, I cannot stress this enough, the food is SUPERB! Don’t expect to have it cheap, that’s just the cost of fresh and amazing ingredients. The prices we fair for what we were getting, we cannot complain. QUITE THE OPPOSITE!
🐳 I only have ONE complaint! I don’t know why they don’t sell those mugs! I NEED THEM IN MY LIFE!
🐋 Yep, as you can see, Mrs. Fancy is easily convinced by flowers, cute mugs and a warm delicious green tea during cold Canadian winters - if you can call this winter that… But I honestly can’t complain! Other than a few spiderwebs in the wall, which I understand due to the texture of the stones and lighting; their ceiling could get some love as well. But that’s just me being pedantic. Their bathroom as out of service, both women’s and men’s. We had to use the accessible washroom instead that wasn’t in the best of conditions. BUT! Overall, this is the best sushi I have ever had. And Natsu was definitely the star of the show by being extremely friendly and helpful.
🐳 ABSOLUTELY, SHE’S OUR FRIEND NOW!
I hope you have enjoyed the journey as much as we did. Please don’t miss out the opportunity to go there.
